Faith and Confession

This week we are studying how our faith and the confession of our mouth are linked in the results we are seeing in our lives.  It affects us in our health, our finances, our relationships, and every other area of our life!  According to the Word of God, faith is THE law by which the Kingdom of God operates!

Heb. 11:1- "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Many people get hope and faith confused...

Faith is:  The substance (confident trust) of things hoped for.

Bible Hope is:  confident expectation!

Rom. 3:27, 4:3-8 Faith is a law of God.

The law of the Old Testament was the law of works, but in the NT (new covenant!) it is the law of FAITH!  Faith is a law of God, like gravity.  It works all of the time, whether you believe it or not.  Faith is a spiritual force that works in the heart of man.

Q:  So, how do we operate the law of faith?

A:  With our words! (Matt. 17:20)

By saying you sow the seed into you heart!

Mark 4:26-28  The kingdom of God is as if a man sowed a seed...Jesus is telling us how to sow a seed into the realm of the Spirit!

1 Peter 1:23  The Word of God is incorruptible (imperishable, lasting forever) seed.

Gen. 3:17 The earth is under a curse.  The soil doesn't decide what to produce, the seed does!

Every seed produces after it's own kind.  Gen. 1:11-12

Mark 11:23  You plant the seed by ___________!                         A: saying/speaking

The blessings that God has promised are contained in the seed.  They will manifest after they are planted!  The ability to reproduce the promise from the Word of God in your life is in the promise itself!

The following is an excerpt taken from Sparkling Gems from the Greek by Rick Renner (c) 2003:

(Some of the following has been paraphrased for length of content by writer)

"In Heb. 10:23, the bible says "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith..."  today I'd like to draw your attention to the word profession.  It comes from the Greek word homologia, which is a compound of the words homo and logos.  The Greek word homo means one of the very same kind.  The second part of the word, logos, is the Greek word for words.  When these two words are joined together, the form the word homologia, which seems at first to mean to say the same thing.

The KJV translates this word as "profession."  However, this is really inadequate to fully understand what it means.  So, let me give you an illustration:  I am a writer and have written many books.  My words are my thoughts, convictions, and beliefs printed on paper.  If you read my books and agree with my words, then in essence you are in agreement with me.  For my words are me!  After my words have gotten deeply into your heart and you have fully embraced them, they will become your own convictions.  Then when you share that information with others, you will no longer be just repeating what you have read.  Instead you will be speaking from the platform of your own heart about what you believe!

The word profession is not the picture of a person who simply repeats what someone else says.  This is an individual who has gotten God's Word into his heart and who has come into agreement with what God says.  This person sees a matter like God sees it; hears it like God hears it; feels it like God feels it.  Now his heart and God's are unified.  Thus, when a believer opens his mouth to "confess" God's Word, his confession is no longer powerless, empty chatter; instead it comes from a very deep place of conviction inside his heart!

Thus Hebrews 10:23 carries this meaning:

"Let us come into agreement with God and then begin to speak what He says, holding tightly to what we confess and refusing to let anyone take it from us."

Real confessions are made out of words from God that have been sown into the heart.  After a period of meditation and renewing the mind, you finally begin to see it the way that God sees it.  YOU REALLY BELIEVE WHAT GOD BELIEVES!

You see, when a believer gets God's word so deep into his heart that he comes into alignment with it, he is no longer simply muttering empty words.  Now he speaks boldly from a place of faith!

Many people make the mistake of going through life repeating what they have heard someone else say without ever developing any depth of faith or understanding for themselves.  They say the right things, but because these words come only from their mouths and not out of their hearts, their confession doesn't produce results.

YOUR FAITH AND YOUR MOUTH MUST BE CONNECTED!

  • Make certain you have chosen to believe what God says.
  • Commit your mind, heart, and all your strength to believing God's Word.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to make God's Word real to you.
  • Pick up your Bible and begin to do some serious study and meditaiton.
  • SOW THE WORD.
